Tuscumbia Railway Museum
The Tuscumbia Railway Museum, Tuscumbia, Alabama, is located at the old downtown train station and freight depot. Hill & Jangaard Architects, P.C. developed a two-phase expansion program for the museum.
-
Elevation of the Railroad Transportation Museum
The first phase includes a museum building with the design based on recreating the appearance of a 19th Century roundhouse and will be connected by railroad tracks to an original locomotive turntable.
-
Section through the museum
The building will house a steam locomotive and related displays.
-
Floor Plan
The museum entrance, restrooms and catering kitchen are located in the lower left corner. The Theater Car is in the lower right corner. The catering kitchen will allow the Train Room, located in the upper part of the drawing, to have a dual function as an exhibit space and as a banquet hall for weddings and other functions.
-
Site Plan
The second phase will include construction of train display areas and an operating train station. Track will be constructed connecting the train station to the turntable and roundhouse, allowing locomotives and coaches to move on the site.
-
Theater Car
Phase Two includes construction of a theater for audio-visual presentations. The theater will look like a 19th century railroad passenger car inside and out, with video screens for interior windows that will simulate views of landscapes passing by the train.
